Safeguarding is about promoting the welfare of children and young people and striving to keep them safe from harm. Fortunately keeping children and young people safe is largely common sense and can be overcome by simple planning.
To assist Group Leaders and Safeguarding Officers, Woodcraft Folk has developed a series of policies and procedures to enable groups to plan and prepare for their sessions. These policies give advice on recommended adult-to-child ratios and provide valuable tools for completing risk assessments, prompting Group Leaders to consider:
- The needs of group members
- The suitability of venue
- The suitability of activities planned
Each District should have its own child protection or safeguarding plan based on the national policy. If your District needs support in this, please contact the Lead Safeguarding Officer (Debs McCahon) on 0845 217 8939.
