New Lanark

New Lanark is the village in Scotland, UK, where Robert Owen, acknowledged as the founding father of co-operation, put his beliefs into practice. His entrepreneurial spirit was allied to the fundamental belief that education was the key to a fairer society. As a result for the workers in the village's mills he provided decent homes, fair wages, free health care and day and evening classes for the villagers. New Lanark is now a World Heritage Site.

There is a hotel and self-catering accommodation in restored mill buildings as well as a youth hostel on the banks of the River Clyde and various tourist attractions.
