Waveney Valley Woodies enjoy the benefits of volunteering

Tuesday, 19 September 2017

Waveney Valley Folk have enjoyed a great summer, adding volunteering into their plan alongside the usual games, crafts and outdoor activities.

Volunteering activities have included visiting and entertaining residents at a local residential home and litter picking on Dunwich beach with equipment supplied by Surfers Against Sewage. Louisa Yallop says,

‘The children really enjoyed the beach litter pick because they had come up with the suggestion after starting to clean up rubbish on a Spring walk along the river Chet. Mani said they hadn't really noticed they were helping because they were having too much fun!’

Future plans include more litter picking and some public gardening for Beccles Town Council, at the suggestion of the local Green Party councillor.

There is more information about Waveney Valley’s activities on their Facebook page. Hayley Chitty posted to say,

‘It’s been brilliant to see how engaged the children have been with this and what a positive experience it is for them to feel like they are contributing something to others.’

Waveney Valley Woodies are always open to new volunteering ideas so if anyone has any tips for local activities for 5- 12 year olds, please do get in touch with Louisa Yallop louisa.yallop@hotmail.com.
