Venturer Committee Meeting October 2011

Tuesday, 1 November 2011

One wet and windy October night Venturer Committee made their way up a steep hill and over the moors to Heightgate. Two days, many packets of biscuits and two (very burnt) rounds of flapjack later, we had a plan. Several plans in fact.First we sorted out what Venturer Committee had achieved last year and what we wanted to achieve this year. We have decided to focus on VCamp 2013, next year's elections, linking Venturer groups, internal communication and KooDoo.

Then we chose roles within the committee – to co-ordinate within the Committee and to be particular contacts for those with roles for VCamp. These were:

  • Venturer Camp Liaisons (people that are the point of contact for the DFs and kinsfolk that take on central VCamp2013 roles)
  • Admin – Catherine
  • Production – Hal
  • Site Services – Nic
  • Programme – Somin
  • KP – Lily
  • TREE reps – Hal, Ruth, Tal
  • Secret Friend Co-ordinator – Emily
  • Contact Database organiser - Jack
  • Koodoo Rep – it would be good to have a venturer rep if/when a committee is set up
  • GC Rep – the proposed new structure for General Council (the board of trustees that looks after Woodcraft’s finances and the things that it does) includes places for 2 venturers, but this change won’t happen for a while

The afternoon was spent choosing these roles – Programme co-ordinator, Production co-ordinator, two K.P.s to work as a team, and Administration co-ordinator but unfortunately no Site Services co-ordinator as no-one has yet put themselves forward for this role (any DFs or young Kinsfolk interested would be much appreciated, email jack.brown@woodcraft.org.uk).

Next morning we began thinking about VCamp and what we want to happen. This included what we want from the site and what theme we want. We are going to be holding an online poll as to which theme we want, which involves several from Venturer Committee but also some from any Venturers who think of one (if you want to send a theme in email it to jack.brown@woodcraft.org.uk).

We also carried out a risk assessment on everything from people not having fun to a sheer drop down to scary rocks and a zombie apocalypse. We also decided not to have a currency (like the Vennies at VCamp) for a variety of reasons, the main one being the financial implications.

It was a very productive session and some actions have already been taken.

If you're a Venturer and want to be involved in KooDoo, why not join the Venturer KooDoo discussion group on Facebook? Also we are hoping to set up National Venturers Secret Friends but don't have contacts for all the Venturer groups so if you're a Venturer or a Venturer adult and your district would be interested, email jack.brown@woodcraft.org.uk.
