Red Oak Cafe - Mac Cockerill
My dad, Mac, died in November last year. Some of you will have met him at CoCamp helping run the Red Oak cafe or jiving at the Disco. Dad was a traditional man. He rarely talked about his feelings and prefered to show his love for his family by knocking down walls or building bathrooms. Thus it was with great suprise that I saw what he had done for his 'secret friend' on camp. He spent a lot of time hand sewing some bunting with writing on it that said how important his special friend was. He then fixed it to the marquee for all to see. His secret friend said it made her feel fantastic.
Dad expressing his feelings openly was so unlike him that at first I refused to believe he'd done it.
But then that's Woodcraft isn't it? Helping people achieve amazing things through simple things. Things like helping my dad feel confident enough to express his feelings openly. My dad's life was so much richer because of Woodcraft. Thank you to everyone who helped make CoCamp happen.
And.... Watch out, you never know when the Red Oak cafe will appear again!
