Global Youth In Cardiff To Develop Peace Campaign

Published on Tuesday November 28 2006

From December 2nd to 8th 2006, 24 young people from all over the world will gather in Cardiff Bay to develop the “Piece of Peace” campaign that will run simultaneously all over the world.

Participants who come from places as far afield as Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan and Egypt as well as Wales are all members of the Youth Network for Peace, a Flemish-based network of international youth organisations that are working together to increase world peace.

The seminar is hosted by two Welsh youth organisations: Gwerin y Coed, the Woodcraft Folk in Wales, and the Welsh Youth Forum on Sustainable Development. It will be held in the Urdd Sleepover Centre in Cardiff Bay . The programme is packed with discussion with local peace organisations and meetings with Jane Davidson, member of the Welsh assembly, and Jill Evans MEP.

“I think this seminar is vitally important to show the world that young people everywhere do not only care about peace but also feel like they need to act on it, to make the world more secure for future generations” said Ann Daniels, seminar coordinator and founder of the Youth Network for Peace.

At the seminar participants will be given training to implement the network's campaign, called the "Piece of Peace" project. The campaign will run from April 2007 in all 12 member countries, and the result will be taken to the European Parliament in Brussels in September 2007.

“I feel activities like this are such a positive experience” said Luci Edwards , seminar coordinator. “It's great that young people from such different cultures can work together for such a worthwhile cause!”

The project will hold its official launch at the Welsh Assembly Senedd in the morning of December
7th.
