Kids Have A Ball At Tolpuddle

Published on Wednesday July 28 2010

Woodcraft were running the children's activities tent in the Kids' Area at the Tolpuddle Martyrs' Festival, as well as a Teen Tent nearby.

Some 22 helpers coped with hundreds of children through the weekend, and organiser Tanya Harris said "It was a huge thing for raising the profile of Woodcraft Folk and we think it was a massive achievement.

"Four years ago we had a little table handing out leaflets, but this year every child that came to Tolpuddle had a Woodcraft experience."

The team organised parachute games, painted faces and helped children make peace kites, God's eyes, shakers, juggling balls, friendship bands and a dragon under which they walked in the march through the village.

Thanks to the Co-Op the teens created non-alcoholic cocktails in their tent and named them. The best recipes will feature in the Co-op magazine. They also made cutlery mobiles and a fabulous banner.

Volunteers came from the South East and South West regions and Tanya says discussions are already beginning about how Woodcraft Folk can spread the word at next year's Tolpuddle Festival.
