Sleeping Bag Aerobics

Published on Thursday September 24 2009

Ros Epson-Brooks introduces us to a special version of aerobics.

Sleeping bag aerobics were the brainchild of our (Lewisham & Greenwich District) District Fellows at GV06.   It has since been revived by our current venturers/DFs who seemed to enjoy getting most of the camp to leap around franticly in their sleeping bags.  Spring camp this year got off to an active start with a session of gentle jumping up and down. Star jumps were of course tricky and often resulted in a few collapses.  During an entire session we progress onto the more co-operative getting up and sitting down in pairs. This always results in a few disasters. More technical moves include forward rolls and press ups (pictured) .

It may look undignified but it works as an excellent activity and good filler.  On the down side, the timing is a bit tricky.  Too early in the morning, particularly on a spring or autumn camp, and the dew can result in wet sleeping bags.   Too late on a summer morning and you cook in your sleeping bag.  At spring camp I got it all wrong, baked during the activity and still ended up washing three filthy sleeping bags afterwards.   Happy camping!
