On the clear summers evening of 19th June this year eighteen intrepid young people
aged between 12 and 19 years old embarked on an adventure into the unknown.
The group were taking part in a ‘Parachute Drop’ organised by the Liss District
Woodcraft Folk designed to build skills in decision making and cooperation. The
exercise involved being driven blindfold to an unknown destination and
challenged to find their way back home using a combination of natural signs,
sign-posts and road signs.
Equipped with a torch, some water, an energy bar and some raisins the young
people were dropped at Passfield Mill Business Park and observed from a
distance by experienced leaders, Pam Gruber and Jane Mackrell, as they weaved a
ten mile path back to the Triangle Centre in Liss via
Conford, Liphook, Old Thorns Golf Club, Weavers Down and Langley, returning
back just after 11pm.
Participant, Megan said: “It was really hard towards the end but I’m so glad I
did it and completed the challenge.”
Group leader Pam Gruber added: “The good humour, cooperation and friendship
exhibited by the group was outstanding in spite of tiredness and no doubt
aching feet.”
All of the young people who took part completed the exercise and received a
certificate for taking part in the challenge.
