Amazing, unifying, inspiring - just some of the feedback we’ve received about Folk Assembly 2017

Friday, 30 June 2017

Members from across the UK gathered at Leeds for our second Folk Assembly. The weekend was a great hit with everyone involved and we’ve seen a lot of brilliant feedback. A special thanks goes out to Leeds for hosting and entertaining us so well. And we would also like to thank all those volunteers who put on workshops, ran the kitchen and provided a great menu and those who ran the creche and children's programme.

Highlights of the weekend included some great storytelling from Eden Ballantyne that had young and old spellbound, a performance by a choir from Leeds singing songs that Woodcraft members knew and could sing along to and a visit from member, Alex Sobel, who was recently elected a Labour MP.

There was a great choice of workshops for all to enjoy. The London Mining Network set up a collaborative board game and there was an Amateur (Ham) Radio workshop and a Life History from a veteran of the Kindertransport demonstrating the power of community action. There was a popular strategic plan wide game and, of course, much singing and storytelling.

Star prize in the Folk Assembly raffle last weekend was a hand-crafted chocolate bar, with the Woodcraft logo, made by friends Michael and Steve at Mondelez (better known as Cadburys). The raffle contributes to a fundraising effort by Michael and Steve, who are cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats in September to raise funds for seven charities, including Woodcraft Folk. All donations that we raise in Woodcraft Folk will be matched by Mondelez. You can donate via their JustGiving page or by text to 70070, SMWF64, £1 to £10.

Here are a few comments we’ve found on our Facebook page. What did you enjoy the most?
